Commissions and etc.
With the holiday season in full swing, I’ve been getting a lot of questions about instead of hoping for the best during the giveaways I’ve been doing, if there’s an option of actually commissioning me instead and taking luck out of the equation.
The short answer is yes. The long answer is yeeeeessssssssssssss.
Read on if you’re interested.
So how do you manage to get yourself a fine ass piece of choice art without having to pray to the dark random.org gods to get your number chosen? Simple. You drop a note in my submission box with the following information.
- Name and preferred method of contact (tumblr, email, skype, steam are all acceptable).
- What you would like drawn (NO DETAILS just general info, such as “like the giveaway pieces” or “a headshot” or “like this piece you did (and a link to whatever piece you’re talking about)”.
- Your budget you’d like to work with for the piece.
- A timeframe or deadline you’d like the piece done by.
If you need examples of my art to choose from, there’s a small selection here for you to look through.
SOME VERY IMPORTANT NOTES
My income is made 100% from freelance and commission based artwork. This is my job. Given, most of my paying jobs are logo work, website work or other miscellaneous design, but I also take my illustration work seriously. I may seem like a fun and easygoing person here on Tumblr, but I get crazy professional when it comes to any transaction where money may be involved.
So what does that mean?
A few things. One, I work on a scale of time-based pay plus base price. My hourly wage is minimum ($7.25) and my base price is 5$ for personal (non-professional) illustration commissions. This is the very lowest I can offer, which means you will likely not be able to get anything that is less than $12.25.
Based on my time spent on anything in the Giveaway series, the prices would range from 34$ (for Witch of Heart), to $55.75 (for Bard of Blood). The discrepancy is based on the fact that the Witch design was canon, where the Bard design was extra work and thus took almost twice as long. However with practice I am getting faster each time so the 4 and 7 hour stretches are slower than normal. Also, professionally speaking, I tend to work at a very solid and quick pace when being paid. So these numbers are on the slightly above average range.
Two, if your budget is less than 10$, I’m so very sorry but there is nothing I can offer you at this point in time. But perhaps check back at a later date.
Three, and this is perhaps most important, RIGHTS AND USAGE.
I do offer Homestuck based commissions. However the usage is PERSONAL and rights are retained by the IP owner (which in this case falls to Andrew Hussie/What Pumpkin). He/They may do as he/they please with the piece, even though you paid for it. It is also subject to removal at his/their request if usage is found to be outside the scope of personal use or unauthorized reproduction occurs.
However, if you commission a piece that does not fall strictly under the Homestuck IP, YOU retain all rights to the piece, given that it is your creation and idea. This means that you have the ability to post it where you please and do as you wish with it, including making a profit from it by selling derivative works, prints, etc. Credit is not necessary, either. The piece is yours for all intents and purposes.
So are you still with me after all that? Okay. A few final notes.
- If you send me an inquiry, I will get back to you within 24 hours, guaranteed. If I do not respond, I did not receive your message and you should send it again.
- I accept PayPal and What Pumpkin gift certificates ONLY. (bidelle@gmail for both)
- I gladly accept donations and will draw thank you sketches for any amount received.
Oh and speaking about donations, the reason I’m offering commissions right now is simple.
I broke both sets of my headphones this past year (the first pair I got for my birthday in 2010 and the second I got as Used a few weeks after the first broke- and they broke the very same day I got them, but since they were used, I couldn’t return them, sigh). So I’m looking to get a replacement. In real life, I don’t go anywhere without music, so without my headphones I am just metaphorically dying. I’m hoping to be able to buy a new pair for myself by Christmas, but they’re not exactly the cheapest things in the world.
Finally, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR INTEREST IF YOU’VE READ THIS FAR! You’re just all kinds of stellar for sticking through that!
