Artist Promotion - Thursday: Andarix!
I don’t really have much to say about her art (besides the obvious fact that it’s really darn purrtyyy <3), I feel it talks for itself!
Aw, thank you for the promo and the kind words!!! :D

first response was Vriska, who gets doodled next??
What to say about this one… I originally planned on rendering it like the last piece, but when I started to do so, it kinda fell apart. The lighting wasn’t nearly as strong, and the focus fell all over the place.
And this particular piece is something I personally find to be one of the hottest things in the world- the moment where someone’s clothes aren’t completely off, but they’re getting there. I’m so tame in my tastes, I apologize.
Profile shots are difficult. Glasses in profile shots are even worse. And color banding in Photoshop is my WORST ENEMY. I work so dark that CS5’s gradient algorithm just does not like to work. If I was working maybe 20 degrees brighter, the banding wouldn’t be a problem at all. But I just cannot work in light colors.
Also who knows what’s happening with the background- I was originally going with the yellow-blue-black that has been established in these series of pictures, but it felt stale and dispassionate. Completely opposite of what I was going for. So red it went!
The high res on my deviantart is wallpaper sized if anyone wants to use it for such a thing. Not that I imagine anyone actually wanting to use my art for a desktop…
ITS COMMENTARY TIME AGAIN!
So that last panel was so simple that I went kind of overboard on this one and just overworked it like crazy. Took a few days on this, mostly because whenever my hand would start to hurt I’d just sit and play Terraria instead.
A few things to point out!
One: This shows I can’t draw anyone younger than 25. Man.
Two: Troll anatomy! I figured she shouldn’t have nipples or a navel because… well they’re both bits that aid in human/mammalian reproduction. And since trolls are technically neither and reproduce via bug-like spawning, I think she wouldn’t have a need for either. Made it both easier and more difficult.
Three: The hole. I’m going semi-chronological while ignoring the fact she should be dead. I have this weird love of mortally wounded art within the Homestuck universe (oh my god you cannot even comprehend my obsession with dead Daves). So while I kept it very gore-less, hopefully people get this this is after her impalement. (Also SORRY SPOILERS, but why are you even reading a Jane and Jake based fan thing if you haven’t at least gotten to Act 6??)
Four: I super apologize for it being so value-negative as far as lighting goes. My coloring style usually sits in the 0-35 value range. I also tried to keep her skin in the 200-220 degree hue range (since she’s 210) but I wanted to try to keep her grey… meh, okay that’s all I’ll say about that.
ANYWAY, parts 3 to 5 of this “saga” will be up soon (not today).
((Insert regular panel RP))
Okay so this one is… annoying me at best. I can rarely limit myself to such a palette… and no shading??? Ugh, don’t get me started. I went and started shading it and adding a billion colors and had to slap myself a few times to keep it limited. Here’s me, trying to be artistic by simplicity.
Anyway. Jake’s pose is a bit too “anime” for my liking too. I kid you not, I looked straight into a manga to get that angle reference for his face. It shows.
But enough knocking down my own work. Tonight was about simplicity, limits, and flow. This question I wasn’t going to do, originally, but I ended up having an idea for it in the last moments of my process. However, as I’ve been SUPER busy the last few days, I couldn’t turn out the 5 or so panels I have in my head in one night. So I opted to turn this into a multi-part saga that will span over the next few days. Perhaps I’ll get a few more asks in that inspire me in the meantime.
Which I’d like to note, if anyone reads this that asks questions over on J and J- I’m sorry if I haven’t answered yours… most of the time if I skip it, it’s because there’s nothing visual to answer with, or if there is, its either meh or far too complicated to answer in a panel or two. Or… its pure speculation, like “how’d you two meet”- I don’t like answering something that will probably be answered for me soon enough in canon.
Anyway, I’ll stop yapping about this one. Oh and yes that’s Vriska.
